All dishes will be made to order and served in environmentally friendly, recyclable or biodegradable packing.
Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner is the brainchild of former primary school teacher, Ruth (Rudy) Mumma and vegan chef, Matthew Foster. Having spent the best part of 2 decades teaching children the national curriculum in America, on moving to London, Ruth was introduced to veganism by Matthew, who made her realise that there were other choices that children needed to be aware of. Matthew Foster, Head Chef at the diner has been working in F&B for the last 25 years. Having gained a wealth of experience and expertise working across the industry, from fine dining to gastro pub to street food cuisine, his dream has always been to create and serve diner style food. Not only is it the food he enjoys most, but, if done well, believes it can’t fail to provide comfort and make people smile.
Determined to create a concept that could incorporate educating off curriculum and teaching the next generations about the plant-based way of life, what better way to engage your audience, than by making it a fun and delicious experience? And so, Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner was born. The new venture combines Ruth’s teaching and first hand knowledge of authentic diners in the US with Matthew’s kitchen skills and passion for vegan cuisine. In time, they plan to host workshops for all ages in the diner.
ARTWORK AND INTERIORS
The all-day features a classic diner-style bar counter, overlooking the open kitchen, allowing guests to watch the chefs at work making it perfect for those curious see exactly how vegan chicken wings or meatloaf is made. The décor is of a predominantly monochrome palette with pops of colour provided by a large artwork, donated by well-respected, vegan artist, Lynda Bell. The pair wanted a focal piece of artwork that would spark conversation and that had a story behind it. They approached Bell to commission a painting. Sharing the pair’s vision to engage and educate the next generation about the vegan way of life, Bell chose to donate her artwork entitled ‘The Guardian’ to the diner, which now exhibits in the newly opened restaurant.
WHY CAMDEN MARKET?
“Camden Market has a hugely international appeal and constant flow of worldwide visitors, particularly as a London hotspot for school trips. We therefore felt it would be a prime location to bring our concept to life to the widest audience of children possible. The Market also already has an established vegan following and we’re excited to see what they think of our food. We’ll be welcoming their feedback and incorporating it into our weekly changing specials menu.”
Throughout Spring, evening dining will be limited to the monthly BYOB supper club, with plans to open for dinner reservations from Summer 2018. Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner is also dog friendly and welcomes well behaved canine companions.
