The final countdown has begun for The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018.

From 10-14 July, the city of Sunderland will host the UK’s largest, free family event: a five-day festival of beautiful ships, circus, theatre and music The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018!

And with just one month to go, organisers have revealed the scale of the event in numbers – and the economic impact it is expected to have on the city.

Fifty-five ships from 16 countries are now making final preparations before setting sail for Sunderland –  with one ship, the Tarangini, facing a 3,600-nautical mile journey.

One of the largest ships taking part is Christian Radich from Norway, at 73m long and 33.6.m high, which featured in the BBC TV drama The Onedin Line in the 1970s, while the smallest is the Wyvern at just 13m.

Speedway Grand Prix comes of age at Principality Stadium

Fast and furious family fun, The Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix is set to return to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday July 21, celebrating its 18th year at the Welsh capital!

The biggest event on the Speedway calendar, the GP was first held at the former Millennium Stadium in 2001 in front of over 30,000 fans. Now the longest-standing third party event in the stadium’s calendar, crowds regularly top 40,000 with visitors drawn to the capital for the activity-packed Fanzone alone. 

Sixteen riders – 15 permanent and 1 wild card – will compete over 23 heats; four riders over four laps on 500cc bikes with no brakes!

The Museum is situated in a remarkable timber framed building, possibly dating back to the twelfth century. It houses an extensive social history collection covering many aspects of community life and agriculture in Bishop's Castle and South West Shropshire from the 18th century onwards. The Museum has four rooms covering domestic life, town businesses and politics, agriculture, and leisure and childhood. Incorporating another small room, a fascinating new display tells the story of the unique Bishop’s Castle Railway, which ran from 1865 to 1935, despite being in receivership from 1867.

True’s Yard is a heritage site and town museum celebrating the fishing community of the North End which made a significant contribution to Lynn’s economic and social life for 900 years. The local fishing industry remains important today! The Museum complex has been enlarged and developed through two Heritage Lottery Funded extensions (1998 & 2010); it has become a premier Lynn tourist attraction and education centre as well as a community venue. The Museum holds lunchtime talks, an engaging exhibition programme, family history classes and tours of the North End. There is also a gift shop and pleasant tearoom with Georgian panelling, which are run by the Museum’s team of friendly and enthusiastic volunteers.

One of the North East’s best loved venues has unveiled a programme of Tudor treats for the coming weeks.

On Friday 13 and 27 April and 10, 11 and 26 May, four-star Lumley Castle Hotel, Chester-le-Street, is turning back the clock to 1595, with its famous banquets - giving diners and partygoers a fun-filled night, Elizabethan-style.

On arrival at the castle guests are led to the dungeons before being piped into the opulent Baron’s Hall and seated on benches for dinner, which is served by Ladies of the Court and eaten with a dagger instead of cutlery.

It's been an exciting few weeks for staff at Gulliver's Land, Milton Keynes, as they have welcomed two new alpacas and a llama to the team!

The popular Dinosaur and Farm Park, situated next to the Theme Park, opens for 2018 on Saturday the 24th March. Visitors will be able to meet the three new animals who are settling in and showing off their personalities already.
