Christmas in London

It is difficult to find Christmas things for the family to do in London that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Thank goodness for Step Outside Guides, who have published a delightful book which does exactly that.

‘Christmas in London’ captures the excitement and splendour of London during the festive season without calling for any help from your already groaning purse or wallet, since everything in the day is cost-free. But this doesn’t mean you will be short-changed in any way.

From Leadenhall Market, decked out in festive splendour, to London’s sparkliest Christmas streets, the route explores buildings, streets and squares, with occasional hops on and off buses. Golden decorations on buildings are spied and stuck on the Christmas tree in the book, while people and objects from the Christmas story are discovered and added to a stable scene. Super-crowded places are generally avoidedin favour of a variety of special Christmas locations and traditions, though Trafalgar Square just can’t be missed!

The guide is written so that older primary children can lead, and there is plenty to keep the adults entertained too. From finding a golden grasshopper to discovering a box of gold, frankincense and myrrh, Chrismas in London will keep everyone involved, delighted and intrigued throughout the day.

Here’s what a couple of Christmas in London-ers had to say:

“We did the Christmas trail yesterday - just perfect!  Thank you for a wonderful set of books.”

A Nicholas, St Albans

“We had a great time seeing London at Christmas and the bus ride up Regent Street was a great 'rest'. We will make it part of our family Christmas tradition.”

B Coles, Goodmayes
