Explore North Devon’s Heritage Coast in luxury

NORTH Devon’s Heritage Coast has yet to receive the recognition it deserves according to Chris Hall co-owner of the family-run Golden Bay Holiday Village in the heart of Westward Ho!* (February, 2018).

Following 15 years in stationery in Leicestershire, Chris and his wife, Mary and their two children, Amy and Alex settled by the breath-taking North Devon coastline and took on the holiday village in 2015.

Chris says: “This area of Devon and its amazing seascape is often overlooked by visitors preferring to go on into Cornwall, but it’s a great place full of hidden gems and somewhere off the beaten track to explore.

“Our coastline is in the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)** covering 171 km2 of coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border to Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor and includes the Hartland Heritage Coast, the North Devon Heritage Coast and Braunton Burrows.”

But if that wasn’t enough, when you stay at Golden Bay Holiday Village you can also enjoy stunning panoramic coastal views across Bideford Bay to Lundy Island and the South West Coast Path, which is Britain’s longest national trail for walkers, is close by too.

For those who are more adventurous, Westward Ho! is a focal point for surfers. There are designated surfing areas and the RNLI Lifeguard service is available from May to September.Explore North Devon’s Heritage Coast in luxury

Golden Bay Holiday Village itself is an exclusive community of luxury holiday homes, beach cottages and surf lodges and is fronted by a two-mile, sandy, Blue Flag beach.

Chris adds: “Golden Bay is first and foremost a beautiful holiday village and it commands one of the most picturesque sea front positions imaginable. Those that come here have a passion for the area and a love for the scenery, which is paramount.

“We offer luxury accommodation for those wishing to escape the hurly burly of everyday life and to unwind in a truly tranquil location with stunning scenery all year round. There’s a slower pace of life here but there’s also plenty to see and do, and our visitors are never bored. You can go for lovely long or short walks or just sit still and enjoy the gorgeous views and breathe in the fresh, coastal air.”

Golden Bay offers a variety of self-catering holiday homes to suit every budget, from standard accommodation to luxury two-storey homes looking out to sea and provides the perfect base for a short break or family holiday.

Visitors to the village can also enjoy direct access to the beach and are close to historic places of interest and to various wildlife and birdwatching spots.

The village’s shops and eateries are a short stroll away and Golden Bay, which is pet-free, is centrally located for many north Devon family attractions and places of interest.

Golden Bay also sells properties to individuals and operates a ‘buy-to-let’ scheme.

Chris continues: “We provide the perfect hideaway for those wanting a quiet second home or a holiday bolthole and, unlike other similar sites, we offer some properties for a 12-month season, enabling owners to use their holiday home whenever they wish.”

Buy-to-let purchasers can also enjoy a return on their properties and owners can have regular holidays on site too.

Golden Bay’s new development, Lighthouse View, has been built specifically for the holiday buy-to-let market and all-year-round use. Each of the spacious, modern properties has three bedrooms and offers a 999-year lease.

Chris added: “We offer a second to none letting service, both for our own properties and for those owners who wish to let their holiday homes with as little input as possible, so laundry and cleaning are all taken care of, along with advertising, bookings, pre-heating the properties and generally making sure that every stay with us represents the best experience possible.”
