Parents across the country are gearing up for the summer holidays – and dreading keeping the little darlings entertained for six weeks.

Luckily, the creative people at the movie studios have been hard at work on this year’s summer releases and for younger children, there’s an animation due for release which will take you all over the globe.

The new Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures! movie hits screens this July and we went along with our two-year-old daughter Amy to check it out.

After the initial excitement of being in a cinema with ACTUAL popcorn, Amy settled down to watch the movie. 

Stage show sees Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs enthral families this Easter

Flinn is back! Les Petits Theatre Company (famous for their production of David Walliams’s The First Hippo on the Moon) return to the high seas after the award-winning Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs rollicked the rigging and spliced the mainbrace! 

The Magic Cutlass is the hugely anticipated sequel based on the award-winning book by Giles Andreae and Russell Ayto.

This week, the first British Dal Festival kicks off in Bristol with events to celebrate the magic of dal – dishes based on split pulses – taking place across the city between Monday 19th and Sunday 25th March. 

The British Dal Festival will culminate in a Grand Dal Finale at Paintworks, Bristol on Sunday 25th March. Celebrate and feast on dal of all kinds, with dal-icious vibes and music to reflect the diversity, versatility and deliciousness of dal and the pulses that make it.

A year in the making, Clip ’n Climb Leeds opens in May and boasts 32 individual climbs – making it the biggest in the North.

Open just in time for May half term, the centre boasts treats for the vertically adventurous include the hair-raising, nine-metre Vertical Drop Slide, plus Stairway To Heaven and the Astro-Ball amongst many others.

The RHS Flower Show Cardiff in April will feature eco-friendly Regeneration Gardens, which champion reusable materials, and is set to inspire with its Wales’ Year of the Sea theme.

The annually anticipated floral spectacular – partnered by wealth manager Brewin Dolphin – will highlight the sensational Welsh coastline with a host of themed gardens and related features and activities to spark the imagination as 60 nurseries from all over the UK come together in Floral Marquee and Plant Village.

As the UK’s leading gardening charity, the RHS has revealed an exciting line-up, bringing vibrant Show Gardens, floral displays, interactive activities and the brand new Regeneration Gardens to the grounds of the stunning Bute Park from 13 to 15 April.

The Dyffryn Conwy Surf Club will offer inclusive and affordable surfing to local youngsters

Surf Snowdonia is launching what will be a world-first community surf club in the heart of the Conwy Valley this weekend.

The Dyffryn Conwy Surf Club – Clwb Syrffio Dyffryn Conwy – will offer low-cost surf lessons to young people living in the Conwy Valley area. It will be the first surf club on the planet to be based inland - eight miles from the coast at Surf Snowdonia’s world-first inland surf lagoon in Dolgarrog.

Snowdog Sculpture gets a warm welcome as he arrives in the North East

SNOWDOGS are coming from all corners of the UK to take part in the largest free public art trail ever to be held in the North East.

On 19 September, streets, parks and open spaces across Sunderland, Gateshead and Tyneside, will become home to 60 giant Snowdog sculptures, individually decorated by artists and celebrities alike.

To keep kids entertained during the summer holidays, Wyevale Garden Centres has put together a programme of fun activities called Braziliant Adventures

Between 2 and 25 August, children and their families are invited to enjoy an array of events at one of almost 50 centres that are taking part in the festivities. A range of craft and baking activities have been planned and they all involve making something fantastic that can be taken home with you. 


Put a spring in your step with Arboretum visit

From late March and throughout April, the Arboretum will be celebrating the arrival of Spring, and it is running Easter holiday activities for children, hosting a plant fair and vintage handmade gift market, and serving up delicious homemade meals.

A variety of activities will be available for younger visitors throughout the Easter holidays. They include a free Easter trail, available from the 25 - 28 March, which will encourage children to explore the Arboretum’s extensive grounds to hunt for hidden clues. All participating children will receive a chocolate treat.

Continuing on the spring theme, little green fingers can get busy at the ‘Children’s Potting Shed’, where they can decorate their own pots and plant seeds to take home, from 25 March – 8 April.

Hunt for Easter fun is on with National Trust for Scotland and Cadbury

Dozens and dozens of Easter hunts take place at the National Trust for Scotland’s historic houses, glorious gardens and cracking countryside over the Easter weekend.

For the ninth consecutive year, the conservation charity has teamed up with Cadbury to host Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts all over the country from Friday 25 to Monday 28 March, from Dumfries and Galloway to Wester Ross.
