Drivers Urged To Plan Ahead For Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018

SUNDERLAND residents and visitors to The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018 are being urged to take note of road closures during the five-day festival of sail.

From 11 to 14 July, the city, which is the start port for the international sailing event, will welcome up to 1.5m visitors keen to see the 55 ships taking part and enjoy a packed schedule of music, theatre, circus and dance.

And, to make sure the festival goes without a hitch, Sunderland City Council is encouraging people to plan their journeys in advance.

On Thursday 12 July, a Crew Parade of sailors and young people from around the world will start at Burdon Road and make its way to St Peter’s Campus, resulting in the closures of Burdon Road and Park Road for the afternoon.

Capability Brown Festival 2016 - ‘Capability’ Brown’s birthday month of August

Blenheim Palace

2016 marks the 300th anniversary of 18th century landscape architect Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, whose birthday (probably) falls this August. His actual date of birth is not known but he was baptised on 30 August 1716 at a time when babies were baptised very soon after birth, so we have declared August as his Birthday Month! The nationwide Capability Brown Festival celebrates the life, work and legacy of England’s most famous gardener, often dubbed the ‘Shakespeare of gardening’ or the ‘grandfather of landscape architecture’.
