The Big Retreat Wales

We are a feel-good festival, in every sense of the word. – for us, feel good is just as much about an icy gin and tonic as it is a yoga class, because The Big Retreat is all about balance. It’s relaxing and energizing in equal measures, a place to connect with others and with your own sense of self.

Our aim is to delight. We have a lot of fun putting on this festival and we want to make sure our Big Retreaters have fun too. We are endlessly inspired by what is really a very special place that we call home, and we want to share that with you.

For us, the measure of true success of The Big Retreat experience is that it’s a weekend you’ll never forget. Whether it’s the spectacular beauty of the setting, the mix and quality of the entertainment and classes, the new and surprising things to discover or the delicious local flavors to sample, we want to create a memorable weekend of happiness and positivity.

People love The Big Retreat because we’re a small, safe, easy-going and unpretentious festival. We love nature and we want to help and encourage others to enjoy and respect its beauty and its benefits.

Our Home

Ours is a small, independent, family-run festival set on the grounds where the family home once stood. It’s a magical location looking out onto the Cleddau Estuary, and it’s steeped in history. This is the very spot where the plans for the National Parks in Wales were drawn up. There are few better places to appreciate the legacy of that meeting.

We are working to restore the park and gardens of the old castle. It’s a slow and costly job and a labour of love. You’ll see glimpses of what there once was, (and of what will be again) as we work with the footprints and walls of the ruins to inspire the Festival setting.

This is a working organic dairy farm, so you may well see the girls out grazing on the fields. It’s also where Wales’ one and only Grand National winner ‘Kirkland’ was trained more than a century ago. The festival site looks over the Gallops where he found his pace.

But above all, as you stand on the festival terrace and look down on the river, you get an overwhelming sense of timelessness, and that’s pretty special.
