Eco-Friendly Luxury in the Lake District

Close your eyes and imagine a romantic break for two surrounded by green fields, towering fells, and glittering lakes.

Oak Tree Studio is a beautifully modern, self-catering cottage set in the beautiful Eden Valley, just outside of the Lake District. This charming cottage has eco friendly features, including underfloor heating provided by a biomass boiler.

The lounge of the property is a bright and airy space, surrounded as it is by floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, offering lovely views over the countryside and towards the fells of the Lake District. In warmer weather, step outside onto the patio and enjoy a bottle of champagne in the pretty garden.

This gorgeous cottage is found in High Hesket, a small village in the Eden Valley close to Armathwaite and Lazonby. The picturesque River Eden, a haven for wildlife of all kinds, flows through the valley and runs parallel to the famous Carlisle to Settle heritage railway, which has been voted as the most scenic in England. Hop onto one of the line’s steam trains and explore the area in style.

The Eden Valley is a beautiful, unspoilt area that has yet to be discovered by large numbers of tourists, making it the ideal spot to get away from it all. It is a delightful place for anyone wanting to get out into the great outdoors, either for the variety of gentle strolls along the rolling hills, or for more challenging outdoor pursuits.

Peaceful lanes surrounding Oak Tree Studio are ideal for cycling, and walkers are spoiled for choice with options ranging from riverside walks, paths through ancient woodlands, hiking on the Lake District fells (with many of Alfred Wainwright’s favourites within easy reach), and strolling through the pretty sandstone villages and traditional towns.

If you fancy a change of scene, head into Carlisle for some shopping and to bask in the history of Carlisle Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, and much more. In the opposite direction is Penrith, a charming, bustling market town of sandstone buildings. Take your pick of a range of specialist shops, supermarkets, a floodlit driving range, and a golf course with stunning Lake District views. Just a mile out of Penrith you will find the Rheged Centre, located in Europe’s largest grass-covered building and home to shops, cafes, a spa, an exhibition centre, and a large 3D cinema screening topical films.
