The eatery at Dundee's award-winning Verdant Works has been recognised for its commitment to providing fresh locally sourced produce. The Verdant Kitchen, a café at the former jute mill turned popular visitor attraction, has been welcomed into VisitScotland's Taste Our Best quality assurance scheme.
Taste Our Best is a scheme which aims to celebrate the very best fresh, seasonal produce by accrediting eating establishments who support Scottish provenance. The Verdant Kitchen, which serves an array of light bites interspersed with traditional Scottish dishes, has a long list of Scottish suppliers for its ingredients.
Local suppliers of fresh, quality produce include Bellfield Organic Nursery in Fife for the vegetables for the café's homemade soups, Fife Creamery for milk, cheddar cheese from Lockerbie and juicy raspberries and strawberries are sourced from local farms.
The most popular dishes on the menu are the homemade cream and jam scones and the Mc Haggis' Melt, a toastie filled with delicious MacSween haggis and Scottish cheddar.
Paul Jennings, Executive Director of Dundee Heritage Trust, which runs Verdant Works along with its sister attraction Discovery Point, said:
"We are delighted that the Verdant Kitchen has become a member of VisitScotland's Taste Our Best quality assurance scheme, which has highlighted our dedication to providing delicious dishes with fresh ingredients from the local area. Taste Our Best is an ideal way to celebrate the wonderful food we have on our doorstep as well as to support local businesses."
Verdant Works and Verdant Kitchen are open from 10.00am-06.00pm Monday - Saturday and 11.00am - 06.00pm on a Sunday (summer opening times).
