Conservation charity, the National Trust for Scotland has opened up a historic holiday home for the first time in 25 years.
Ardlochan Lodge, in the grounds of the renowned Culzean Castle and Country Park near Maybole in Ayrshire, was built around 1830 but has lain empty and uninhabitable since 1991.
Now, as part of an ongoing ‘masterplan’ to enhance the wider property, significant works were undertaken at the Lodge over 16 weeks to bring it back into use as a holiday cottage.
The Lake District’s most successful self-catering cottage company, Heart of the Lakes, is honouring one of the region’s greatest literary figures by giving away a holiday in the 17th century farmhouse she once owned. Beatrix Potter, who would have turned 150 years old on 28th June this year, bequeathed the property, Yew Tree Farm, to the National Trust. It famously featured in the 2006 film, ‘Miss Potter’, starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.
